Draft: Front Cover

This is my first draft idea for the front cover of my magazine, I have researched magazines that I like and combined them together to create this draft cover. I used one of the mug shot photos I had taken of my artist as I thought it worked well as a striking image style. I have taken inspiration from the Esquire magazine with Blake Lively on the front cover, they have used a scribbled hand-written style font so I have tried to create that in my own way by used a font from www.dafont.com. I have tried to follow a pattern with the layout of my front cover; in my opinion it is a backwards 'F' as there are no gaps down the right hand side, and two gaps evenly spaced on the left hand side. I have used a very simple colour scheme of black, white, and blonde hair; this is because I feel that simplistic magazine covers stand out more in shops as most music magazines have brighter colours on them with special offers etc.

This looks great but has some big erros which need attention.

Both you and I know Georgia is from the Skeleton Boys but no one else does, and no one else would from the current layout because her name isn't on the cover and the Skeleton Boy's split is tucked away on the top right.

You need to alter the cover lines, the Blake Lively version you've emulated has Blake Lively in much larger writing and positioned next to her to clearly indicate who she is. Could you not write on Georgia's chest and utilise all that black space? There is also slightly more text on the cover and the hand written style is used for the date and price also.

The photo is fine, though there is some of the flower wallpaper visible in her hair which you'll need to remove. As it is you'd probably be in level 3 (c/b) for this but it has the potential to be much much better than that.

A bit more colour wouldn't go amiss either, maybe red for the masthead just to add a certain spark.

If you'd like me to sit down and go through this with you, you'll need to hunt me down at a lunch time as I have no free periods until Thursday.

Well done though, already this is a million times better than your AS work.

    follow my AS blog http://mrsmithasmedia.blogspot.com/

get started on creating a 'character' for Georgia

Let me know if the deadline of March 9th is too hard to meet because of other A2 subjects and I'll work out another deadline for you.

And finally have a bit of belief in yourself, you're very talented but constantly doubt your choices and try and second guess what other people want from you.
